In figure drawing class last night, we worked on getting proportions exactly right. I used to measure every single thing in every single drawing, but after some direction from Jeff Hein, I started following my instincts more. So instead of having an exactly perfect measured out drawing, I have an interpretation of what I see. And most of the time I’m pretty darn accurate without measuring hardly anything. Well now that Jeff has left the school and Adam is the new figure drawing teacher, he had us go back to measuring everything last night. I felt sort of crippled by it and felt like I was going backward. At least it’s only one drawing. The drawing turned out fine, but I think if I hadn’t measure everything it would have turned out even better.
