This nu pastel drawing was from my figure drawing class last night. I think it’s even better than the ones I did a few weeks ago. I definitely spent more time on it, making sure it was just perfect and I’m really happy with the result. I think I could do these kinds of drawings for the rest of my life, I love them so much.

Here is week 5 of the 5 week drawing. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, although next time I think I’ll use a darker pencil….I had to boost the contrast quite a bit to make it show up on the page.

In figure drawing class last night, we worked on getting proportions exactly right. I used to measure every single thing in every single drawing, but after some direction from Jeff Hein, I started following my instincts more. So instead of having an exactly perfect measured out drawing, I have an interpretation of what I see. And most of the time I’m pretty darn accurate without measuring hardly anything. Well now that Jeff has left the school and Adam is the new figure drawing teacher, he had us go back to measuring everything last night. I felt sort of crippled by it and felt like I was going backward. At least it’s only one drawing. The drawing turned out fine, but I think if I hadn’t measure everything it would have turned out even better.

In Justin Taylor’s Head Drawing class, we’re doing a four week drawing. This is week two. I think I have a picture of week one, but I can’t find it. If and when I find it, I’ll post it.

I’m feeling really good progress in my abilities. Justin says a few more drawings this good and I’ll move on to paint!!
